John Mulholland – Surviving Stonyhurst

I have now finished John Mulholland’s tour de force on life at Stonyhurst. I won’t attempt a critique – there are plenty of those already – just to say how much I enjoyed it and how grateful I am for the vast amount of detail which he has managed to mould into an informative and entertaining whole, a lot of which passed me by at the time. I had no idea of what was going on in the drama department, Mel Morrow etc. or the real dramas of the climbing club. I certainly never thought of Vic Low as having a death wish. Achieving closure on the “umbrella on the tower” incident was also a great moment of catharsis; I always thought it was the work of Mark de Bertodano’s older brother. I was also pleased that he used so many of my photographs. My only gripes are that he wasn’t in our year and that he didn’t cover the fateful accident with the Savundra’s car that balmy night of the 1968 Great Academies Ball (see Memorabilia for newspaper cutting).

If you haven’t bought it already, I suggest you follow this link without further ado.
